Manufacturing Our Potential Fisheries Harvest


Fisheries is applied knowledge that has purpose to develop fisheries better. We have fisheries wealth in land and sea. As we know, our country has ¾ water. It’s meaned that our water are bigger than our land. So, our country has thousands even millions fisheries wealth but we have explored them yet. Our potential fisheries don’t manufacture it to be something useful. Most of them only sell in fresh. But fresh fisheries harvest don’t have long lifeshelf. Because of that, we need to learn to make it have high value.
Fish is a animal which has high nutrition and good fat for human’s brain. Fish has high protein than meat and has long chain with Omega-3 for smart brain. Beside it, fish also has soft teksture so can be disgested and absorbed easily. Fish needs processing to make it fresh long because fish will be spoiled in 6 hour after died in room temperature.
Actually in case, our potential fisheries can be divizen for our country, so fisheries harvest technology is important to be learned more. For example beside fish, our country has explored sea cucumber to be muscle crispy chips, chitosan from kitin substance of crustacean skin to make fisheries harvest fresh lasting, our water invertebrate such as sand dollar and sea star to be accessories, and something useful else but we’ve developed them yet.
Processing our harvest still in traditional like making salt-fish by depending sun shine. However, it will have low value. Instead, we’ll process it to be sarden, smog-fish, ‘pindang’, sosis, peda-fish or simple processing such as meatball, crispy chips, and noodle. It will have high value than sell in fresh. Side alternative for unselected fish can manufacture to be ‘surimi’. Demand exporting fresh fish rise high and high every year, if no have special handling, importer won’t accept it because they also have standards. So we have to learn more about handling our harvest. It can freshed by high frozen and we also have to select it carefully.
For conclusion, fisheries diversity need to develop by processing to be something that can have high value, because no imposible our fisheries wealth can reduce poverty in our country.
